Velvet Seltzer

For the sake of keeping my skills sharp in late 2021, as well as for the love of low-calorie fruity seltzers, I branded and expanded a seltzer brand concept entirely on my own. I was inspired mostly by the 70s-style rebrands of Burger King and Chobani, which went for a more organic image as part of a market-disrupting trend.

Peach and Berries

Unlike Taste, Velvet Seltzer has a wholesome, colorful brand with a vintage flair. Velvet’s branding appeals to alcohol drinkers who despise artificial flavors and bland flavors - the vintage fonts and warmth suggest a familiar, less synthesized approach to seltzer, while the bright colors and hand-drawn lettering emphasize a bold and authentic brand presence.

Seltzer and Beyond

Design today has to go beyond mere communication or differentiation; customers expect a personal relationship with the companies they support. In addition to the existing wrap-around can design, this branding can be carried through to other media, such as advertisements and retail merchandise, by concentrating on both the Velvet typography and fruit illustrations.

With these adaptations, the brand image works as both a memorable hook for the company and an expressive tool for the consumer.
